Opioid-related overdoses have risen during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact more people have died from opiod overdoses than from the virus itself.
Medical researchers found that COVID long haulers are prescribed opioids at higher rates than those without a previous diagnosis, complicating an already complex situation. The aftermath of post COVID syndrome is as yet unknown and providers often prescribe opioids to individuals with a history of this illness.
