In Texas there is one of thousands of self-described long-haulers. Month’s after individuals have contracted and overcame COIVD-19 has reported symptoms that have lingered to even developing “out of the blue” symptoms.
Dr. Francis Collins, chief of National Institute of Health describes that long-haulers affects an uncertain number of survivors and all in different ways. There is no known factor or for certain how long symptoms like fog brain and fatigue may last. Some have contracted COVID-19 over a year ago and are still living with symptoms that affect everyday life.
There are many questions on long-haulers that scientists and doctors want to find the answers to. Dr. Collins has reached out to congress to fund $1 billion to study about 20,000 people how have had COVID-19.
Reported symptoms of long-haulers consist of:
· Fatigue
· Shortness of breath
· Insomnia
· Trouble thinking
· Depression
· Organ damage
· Lung scarring
· Heart inflammation
Nearly 30 million people in the United States have contracted COVID-19 and scientists are working on pinpointing whether these symptoms are directly linked to the virus or exacerbating some preexisting conditions of people.
