A Texan man was recently released from the hospital a little past 8 months after contracting COVID-19. The patient was first affected last summer and this January received a double lung transplant.
Andrew Capen was on life support for months and doctors claims that COVID-19 “essentially destroyed his lungs”. Doctors witnessed Capen’s lungs were severly impacted with scar tissue and inflammation.
Doctors at Houston Methodist anticipate there will be more cases dealing with the long-term effects such as lung damage due to COVID-19. Capen is looking into a year of rehab and recovery with his new set of lungs.
