Research suggests that ten percent of people that contract COVID-19 have long-term symptoms, even after their boy has “apparently” cleared the virus. This condition is known as long COVID and is one of the most troublesome features of the pandemic.

Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at the Yale School of Medicine noted that long-haulers is more visible due to the fact that 137 million COVID-19 cases worldwide and counting. Now we are noticing that long-term symptoms are even more frequent than any other infection.

Doctors have learned from other long-term viral illnesses have pathogens that do not fully clear the body. Having the reservoir of the virus in your gut, brain and even fat remains and continues inflammation and symptoms.

By studying herpes and other viruses that causes inflammation and somewhat similar symptoms, doctors and scientists get to figure out why is COVID-19 is developing in long-term symptoms that continue to disrupt lives.
