In the midst of all the COVID news, research and antibody treatments, scientists appear to have identified a link between COVID-19 and something that is “like” Alzheimer’s.
While researchers did not find evidence that the virus directly infects the brain, they did find genes and proteins of COVID-19 to be similar and associated with Alzheimer’s markers, implicating brain inflammation and certain viral factors are highly expressed in brain cells.
Researchers are working on identifying how COVID-19 and neurological problems are linked so that they may develop effective and preventative strategies to address the “surge of neurocognitive impairments” created by COVID-19.
