Hundreds of flights were canceled by American Airlines due to bad weather and staffing shortages, according to a statement. The arrival capacity was reduced in Dallas-Fort Worth, the company said, because to two days of strong winds. Flights at its Charlotte, North Carolina base also suffered as a result. “Because our crew members are frequently out of their normal flight routines due to additional weather throughout the system, our staffing begins to become restricted,” it said.
As of Saturday evening, FlightAware, a flight monitoring software, has recorded 499 flights or 18% of the airline’s operations being canceled. Another nearly 300 flights, or 11% of its operations, were delayed.
