Researchers still know little about long-haulers. One of the many symptoms that COVID-19 may cause is organ damage, and doctors have been used g ultrasound imaging to assess these damaged organs in patients who have been affected by the virus.
Fifty-six patients who had the virus were studied, as well as 34 who didn’t get it to see how they are similar and different. Three factors was noted when examining the patients:
- Higher body mass index
- Hospitalization
- Disease severity
Most evidence of significantly altered elasticity, viscosity, and steatosis which is still the beginning of the research was prevalent due to the 3 common factors of those infected by COVID-19.
Researchers concluded that they are still in their early stages of the study, but are highly motivated that ultrasound may help in identifying the damage that long haulers may cause to the body and how to better understand it.
