The Cause of COVID Long Haulers?

One of the biggest medical mysteries COVID-19 has been how patients develop COVID Long Haulers. In the bay area a virologist believes he has discovered that there is a root cause of this condition which he hoped that will lead to an improved understanding and treatments for patients. His studies show that monocytes cells that rid the body of “dead and dying cells” cause an overactive immune system to trigger chronic fatigue and brain fog. Determining how the COVID-19 virus affects monocytes provides doctors with a better understanding on how to treat patients recovering from Long Haulers. To read the full article, Click Here

COVID Long Haulers Might Cause Ocular Nerve Damage

A build-up of immune cells and nerve damage in the eye can indicate COVID Long Haulers, a study may show. This preliminary study still needs verification from people who have other symptoms that could be attributed to COVID Long Hauler. One technique that researchers use to diagnose COVID Long Haulers is corneal confocal microscopy, which views the nerves in the eyes. The powerful images allow experts to see signs of nerve damage in other areas of the body. To read about the study, Click Here

After Chronic Struggles, COVID Long Haulers Look For Support

Retired Northwestern University professor, Dr. Reinecke points out there is a need for more research. Despite scattered studies pointing to the same conclusion, Reinecke has come up with a strategy to help patients: Create a national COVID-19 response headquarters to coordinate and develop evidence-based programs to address social and emotional consequences of the pandemicOpen community-based centers to treat chronic COVID conditionsTrain medical professionals in evidence-based care of COVID-19 A consistent system and process to identify and label COVID-19 will better help and support those who are suffering to be treated properly. $40 Million Study Hopes To Help Children With COVID Long Haulers

The lack of knowledge about COVID-19, which has been around for less than one year, is troubling. We only have a bit more information than we had with chicken pox, a disease that we've known about since the 1940s! Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC partnered up with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease to start a study on COVID Long Haulers. This study will explore the multisystem inflammatory it causes among children. Scientists hope to better understand the long-term effects of chronic COVID on children's lives through this study. This will help answer questions about how often and when kids experience negative consequences as a result of living with COVID day in and day out. To read the full article, Click Here

COVID affects 10-30% of people diagnosed by the virus with long-lasting symptoms lasting up to year. This condition is called COVID Long Haulers. Many doctors and researchers are looking into what, how and why people are suffering from these lingering effects for up to 6 months after COVID. There is no concrete answer yet, but they're hopeful of finding a solution as they survey survivors and long haulers - collecting data as much as possible in the process.
