It’s been over a year since we were made aware of the COVID-19 and so many have been affected by this pandemic in some way. The initial infection phase is four weeks, but experts say that people are surpassing the time frame with lingering effects. After the acute infection phase of the first four weeks some get better, others fully recover and then there is a second phase. The second phase is known as the subacute phase takes place week 4-12 after initial infection. A survey was conducted on half of a million adults in England and found that many are suffering from COVID Long Haulers. It has been a challenge to manage the long-term symptoms and the government funded $50 million to continue research on COVID Long Haulers. This was a self-reported survey and showed that: 37% of the patients reported one symptom lasting 12 weeks or longer15% of patients reported from suffering 3-4 symptoms 12 weeks or longerLong-term symptoms were reported more with women than men.  The study also shows that there is no standard definition in the severity of symptoms, because range is so wide spread. Filmmaker Nick Guthe witnessed his wife’s health deteriorate while battling COVID Long Haulers. After 13 months of ongoing symptoms from COVID Long Haulers, Heidi Ferrier committed suicide. Unexplained, “excruciating pain” in Heidi’s feet was the first symptom that came after contracting COVID last summer of 2020. Soon after digestive issues arised, along with body aches and heart palpitations. Seeking answers from doctors and being dismissed didn’t help her situation. A study on 2 million COVID-19 patients showed a quarter of Americans suffered from brain fog, high cholesterol, and even had respiratory issues long after their initial infection of COVID-19. But what is even more interesting is that 19% of those 2 million never felt any COVID-19 symptoms when they were infected. By all accounts they are asymptomatic and are now Long Haulers. New Drug Shows Progress For COVID Long Haulers

There has been an FDA approved trial for the drug Leronlimab for the treatment of COVID “Long Haulers”. Their initial group of 56 people, received weekly injections of the drug. These people were analyzed and identified as Long Haulers. The initial results are promising and patients are recording that 3 out of the 4 symptoms they are improving due to the injections. There still needs to be further data and analysis on the biomarkers of the patients. A second study is needed with Leronlimab to see if it might be an effective treatment for those suffering from long-haulers by summer of 2022. The second stages are in the planning phase as of now.
