There have been reports of individuals losing their sense of taste and smell within the first two weeks of contracting COVID-19. Today there is little to no discussion in when it returns and how it can affect one’s daily life. The University of Arizona School of medicine noticed patients with serious illnesses are avoiding urgently needed care due to the fear of contracting COVID-19. Fewer people are showing up for care and these individuals are suffering from heart attacks, strokes and other chronic illnesses that need medical attention.  The end result that many are simply dying from the neglect of their pre-existing ailment or serious compromised health because they are scared to get the virus. Many are seeking relief for “long haulers” who are still suffering from COVID-19 symptoms months after recovering.  Now that the U.S. has allowed Moderna and Pfzer to administer COVID-19 vaccines some are reporting the vaccine have minimized and even stopped their systems.  There is a lot of unknown factors and studies have been conducted to better understand that lingering symptoms can persist for 3 to 6 months. COVID-19 survivors continue to experience concern with mental and physical health months after being hospitalized. UK researchers conducted a study that shows 1 in 5 people develop a disability and a number of survivors are not working or changing jobs due to their health. While the exact number in the US of long haul COVID-19 cases are unknown, experts say our nation needs to create COVID-19 clinics dedicated to treating patients with lingering symptoms. There are many people that can’t get rid of the lingering symptoms of COVID=19. These are the people with “Long-Haulers” and many are still living with these symptoms months and even a year after contracting COVID-19. Now, there is a South Florida drug trial that is providing hope for those who are suffering from these lingering effects.  Leronlimab is the new drug being used to ease the symptoms of COVID=19. Northwestern University conducted a new study and found that 85% of COID-19 Long Haulers may experience neurological symptoms far pass six weeks after recovering from the virus.  This recent study was done on 100 patients that were never hospitalized for their initial illness of COVID-19. Research done by the journal of Nature Medicine goes in depth of the long-term effects of COVID-19. Some of the challenges of “long-haulers” face effect the whole body when recovering. Nature Medicine outlines that the lunges, Kidneys, heart and even the skin are affected by long-term COVID-19. While those are the most common, they are also identifying neurological, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems receive extensive damage as well.
