More and more doctors are prescribing opioids to treat COVID long-haul symptoms. About one in every 10 people who contract COVID-19 will develop long-haul symptoms.
Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly with Washington University is concerned about the prescribing of opioids, due to the fact that our nation has a an already serious opioid crisis. On top of that opioids tend to damage the organs such as kidneys, which isn’t really supplemental since COVID-19 can have a serious effect on the heart and lungs.
It’s not that doctors do not want to treat the pain, but at the same time they need to have a better understanding on what’s going on with long-haul COVID in order to have a treatment plan and be able to support those suffering from pain and give a better treatment plan.
