There is a demand for facilities to provide care for those suffering from “long-haulers” after contracting and “recovering” from COVID-19.
As case numbers drop, we are seeing a large number of long haulers that need attention. These individuals continue to experience symptoms sometimes weeks to months after. In order to better serve and accommodate the need, health systems are beginning to set up clinics solely dedicated to long-haulers.
Initially we have seen Seattle-based UW Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic to start with this system to better support those who continue to suffer long after COVID-19.
Clinicians have discovered that the care for long-haulers is extensive and complex to were specialists and care teams are needed. This includes internal medicine physicians, psychologists, physiatrists as well as physical and occupational therapists.
