People recovering from COVID-19 suffer from at least one lingering symptom and recent reviews from the National Institute of Health states that 50-80% of people are suffering from long-COVID or “Long Haulers”.
The symptoms seem to settle after 8-12 weeks, while 10% of cases can linger for six months after testing negative for the virus. Long Haulers appears to be frequent in women and young individuals who are overweight.
Seventy percent of long-haulers reported extreme fatigue and several neurological symptoms like muscle pain, migraine like headaches, mild memory impairment and sleep disturbances.
There is growing evidence that COVID-19 is not a static condition and several psychological and neurological symptoms of the virus may persist weeks after infection. Being proactive and monitoring your symptoms along with management is essential for recovery.
