Most long-haulers are women. Is it because they mount a stronger immune response to the virus?

Studies have shown that men do get hit harder by Covid-19 than women, but with the lingering symptoms and effects of the virus tend to effect women more. Women may have harder time recovering from the virus after infection. Researchers from France found that women in Paris suffering from Long-Haulers outnumber men four to one.

The findings show that most long-haulers are women around the age of 40 with no preexisting medical conditions are the ones with symptoms lasting more than eight weeks.

Scientists are working on the notion that there is an imbalance of a T-cell response to Covid-19. Due to an active T-cell response in women can lead the immune system to attack itself even after overcoming the virus when initially infected. An autoimmune disease may arise from this imbalance which may lead to long-hauler symptoms.
