Neurologists Focus on Acute Symptoms for Longhaulers

Neurologists and specialist are working together to identify the causes of long-haul symptoms. Identifying and offering specific symptomatic treatments in order to counsel and support those to recover is first priority.

There is still no clear understanding of what is causing COVID-19 “long-haul” symptoms Some of the possibilities may be:

1.     Autoimmune reactions

2.     Lingering reservoirs of COVID-19

3.     Neurologic disorder

Evidence from studies and clinical experience has shown a typical long-haul patient and what it looks like:

·       More likely to be women (72%)

·       Middle aged

·       Caucasian

27% reported persistent symptoms beyond 60 days. The research is ongoing to see what is needed and what doctors can do to help people that are suffering from long-haulers.
