Overall an estimate of ten to thirty percent of people with COVID-19 are suffering from symptoms lasting for months. There are not many answers to these symptoms, but some of those suffering from “long-haulers” are finding relief after getting the vaccine. Some people are reporting suffering from the symptoms even worse one to three weeks after their vaccinations to fully recovering from the “brain fog” and neurological symptoms that at times cripple patients from their daily lives. There is no real treatment for these symptoms, but it seems that the vaccine may support those suffering. Problems with simply thinking affect a large majority of COVID-19 patients. There has been a common four symptoms that most people suffer after contracting the virus.  Never sick enough to be hospitalized but have recorded lingering symptoms far past 6 weeks to a year that affect their daily lives. Baylor College of Medicine has created a “Post-COVID Care Clinic” for patients in Houstin still recovering from the virus. People are experiencing long lasting effects which calls for the demand of dedicated care. Oregon Health and Science University are working with people who are affected by long-hauler systems of COVID-19. They currently have a waitlist of 100 people and anticipate to see many more that will reach out to OHSU. The program goes through a “head-to-toe” on symptoms so they can provide multiple specialists to care for these people. Depending on the symptoms the program can also order other studies or make referrals to other specialists for better management and sufficient care for those who are suffering from long-haulers. At the Center for Community Research at DePaul University in Chicago assumed that there would be a number of individuals that “did not recover” also known as long haulers when the virus came into play this past year. Dr. Leonard Jason looked into different viruses such as the Spanish flu, ebola and SIRS to see that a commonality was a percentage of people don’t fully recover.  Those suffering from Long haul symptoms seem to be diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis. There is a demand for facilities to provide care for those suffering from “long-haulers” after contracting and “recovering” from COVID-19. As case numbers drop, we are seeing a large number of long haulers that need attention. These individuals continue to experience symptoms sometimes weeks to months after. Over the past year and even last six months there has been discussion and research on lingering symptoms after COVID=19. Michaelene Carlton, 47 years old from Delaware is currently suffering from severe symptoms after having a mild case of COVID in March 2020.  Before her diagnosis she was actively exercising, working in special education and a wife and mom of two teens.
