The emergence of COVID-19 in the United States caught many policymakers, providers, and doctors by surprise. They responded to this challenge by reviewing existing basic science and clinical data with an eye towards identifying treatments that might be potentially effective against the virus. Both novel as well as repurposed therapies were explored through clinical trials.
One such treatment was Ivermectin and a majority of the clinical trials for ivermectin had excellent results. Large-scale “natural experiments” were conducted to see if patients got better and it was observed that their patients improved as a result.
