Ukraine has been struggling to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of its citizens lacked access to the shot, didn’t desire to get vaccinated, or did not believe that the vaccination would help them. According to data, only 25% of the population was vaccinated as of February 24th, 2022. Considering they have a war going on now, spikes of infection are now inevitable. Time between Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines can be up to 8 weeks for some people, updated CDC guidance says

The US Centers for Disease Control has updated the guidance for the second dose of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Previously, they advised the second dose should be administered three weeks after the first shot. Now, they are advising to wait eight weeks. This new interval is optimal for most people ages 12 and older. However, the original guidance of three week intervals remains the same for moderate to severely immunocompromised patients that are 65 years and older. To read more, click here.

Covid-19 is killing more people now than during most of the pandemic. Here’s who’s still at risk

Although masking guidelines are shifting, and leaders are moving towards a sense of normalcy, more people are dying now than during other points in the pandemic. The only other time deaths were this high was before the vaccines were available, according to John’s Hopkins University. FDA doubles dosage of Covid-19 monoclonal antibody, raising concerns about access and supply

The USDA released a statement advising individuals that received Evusheld to go back and get a second dose of the drug as soon as possible. Evusheld is a monoclonal antibody that is given to people that are immunocompromised and cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons. Originally, patients were to receive 150 milligrams of the drug, but it has now been doubled due to new findings from ongoing studies. Capitol physician drops Congress’ mask mandate ahead of State of the Union address

The attending physician for U.S. Capitol hill has just announced that masks are optional. Based on new guidance from the CDC, he states, “individuals may choose to mask at any time, but it is no longer a requirement.” There have been severe debates in the past about mask wearing while in the complex. Some officials have even racked up quite a few fines for choosing not to abide by the mandate. The guidance came after Covid-19 cases in the United States fell to a new all-time low. Hawaii is ending certain Covid-19 safety precautions for domestic travelers later this month

Hawaii established a “Safe Travels” program that was intended to slow the spread of Covid-19. That initiative will officially come to an end as of March 25, 2022. White House unveils plan to move America to a new stage of the Covid pandemic

The White House has a plan to approach the pandemic in a way where it does not disrupt the lives of citizens and where we are better equipped for possible variants to arise. The National Covid-19 Preparedness Plan will fund treatments for the virus, keeps schools and businesses open, and push vaccination. Biden has presented a plan, “Test to Treat” where Americans get tested for the virus and receive an antiviral pill, for free, on the spot, should they test positive. CDC loosens COVID-19 indoor mask guidance, including for schools

The CDC is now advising counties to loosen their federal mask wearing mandates for counties that are in low or medium risk zones. This applies to 70% of Americans as 70% of Americans live in these counties. COVID-19 cases has fallen drastically since the immersion of the omicron variant. This fact has public health officials very optimistic in regard to the direction of the pandemic. Possible deer-to human COVID-19 transmission reported by Canadian researchers

Canadian researchers have found the first case of a deer passing COVID-19 to a human. The findings identified a white-tailed deer as being responsible for this transmission. It had been previously reported that these deer were even capable of being infected by the Omicron variant. In light of these recent findings, the risk to the general public still remains low.
